The victory is mine! The battle belongs to the Lord! These words make up part of the chorus of a song I listened to tonight. They remind me of one of my favorite passages in the Bible. 2 Chronicles 20. King Jehoshaphat was being sought for battle by the people of Moab, the people of Ammon and others. In fact, the bible says a "great multitude" was coming against him. What was Jehoshaphat's response? He sought the Lord and proclaimed a fast. His prayer in the assembly of Judah is awesome! He reminds God (and us) that He is God in heaven, He rules over all the kingdoms of nations, in His hand is power and might, no one is able to withstand Him. He is our God, when disaster comes, we can cry out and God will hear and save. He is a God that judges the nations. I love verse 12: Jehoshaphat admits that he is powerless against the multitude coming against him and that he doesn't know what to do, BUT his eyes were upon the Lord! Jahaziel came to tell Jehoshaphat the words of the Lord "do not be afraid or dismayed, this battle belongs to the Lord". He told Jehoshaphat that he wouldn't need to fight, only position himself, STAND, and see God's salvation. Jehoshaphat again worshipped God. How did he prepare his people for battle? He told some of them to "sing to the Lord" and some to "praise the beauty of His holiness". When they began to sing and praise the Lord, God set ambushes against Jehoshaphat's enemies and they were defeated. In fact, the enemies helped destroy one another! No one escaped! There was so much spoil among the enemy that Jehoshaphat's people could hardly take it away, and in fact, it took them three days to do so. The next days were spent blessing the Lord with stringed instruments, harps and trumpets. Need I say again, the victory is ours, the battle belongs to the Lord! What a great reminder this song was and what a great chapter. Get your bible and pull up a chair. Turn to 2 Chronicles, chapter 20 and take time to read this GREAT story written for us so many years ago.
