Today, April 20th, was my wedding anniversary. We have been together 19 years. Wow! We celebrated by going to our favorite restaurant together and had a really nice evening. We thank the Lord for coupons because it is a rather expensive restaurant. They have a coupon in the Entertainment Book so we get to go there at least once a year. When we came home we did something we have not done in a long time. We got out our wedding pictures and sat down with the kids and looked through them. My husband used to write me notes on the little yellow post-it notes. I had saved a bunch of them and put them with our wedding pictures. We read them together this evening. I think the kids really enjoyed that. Our children need to be reminded often that Mommy and Daddy love each other and we are committed to each other. We will stay together and work through whatever challenges that we encounter. They know our marriage is not perfect. But they also know that we are not quitters and we will not give up when we go through tough times. We have been through a lot in 19 years. Six children (we have two already with the Lord, in fact one went to be with the Lord on an anniversary!), job changes, two houses, lots of trials, lots of joys. We do not have the best marriage around, but we have a committed marriage. We are committed to stay put with one another. There are lots of things I wish I could change about my spouse and I bet he would say the same thing about me. One thing I know for sure... God is faithful. I just know that those very things I wish I could change, are the very things that He will use to mold and make me into the image of His Son. I am glad I married my husband and I would marry him again. I will stay with him until death do us part. I am saddened by the many people I have seen leave their spouses over the years and have personally counseled several not to divorce. Sometimes I have had to do this by a very choice of my will because things are not always rosy in a marriage. We personally have been through a lot, but I am convinced that God is faithful and He will honor those who persevere. Marriage is a covenant relationship and God honors covenant. We are truly blessed to serve a covenant keeping God! Speaking of our creator God, we are enjoying the beautiful spring and teaching our children to thank God for all the beautiful flowers and new growth. Everything is so pretty this time of year.
