WHO is the one performing

| | Comments (0)

WHO is the one performing all the action in these versus? It is God!! He does it ALL. After I studied this lesson I was set free in my thinking. Guess who does it ALL in me? I realized that I could quit trying to make myself right. I am tired of trying to be what I think I should be as a Christian or tired of trying to be what others think I should be as a Christian. That is a big one for me. I have spent LOTS of time trying to be what I think others think I should be. Because you know what? No matter how hard that “I” try, “I” can’t do it!! God is the one who does the doing. Notice He says that He will put His Spirit in me and will “cause” me to walk in His statutes. It finally sunk into me that I was not going to be able to change myself. I might mention here that I can’t change others either. Oh, I can try, and TRY I HAVE, but to no avail. The only thing I am going to do is wear myself out trying. I cannot keep the law, nor can I make those around me keep it. It was never meant for me to keep. If “I” could keep it, then I would not need Jesus! Jesus Christ came to fulfill the law in and through me. I will leave you with that thought for today. If you get a chance, take a look at Romans 8:2-5.

Another passage of scripture we looked at while I was studying covenant was Ezekiel 36:24-28. I was especially touched by verses 26-27. “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.” This is what happens to every believer when they get saved. Remember this is looking ahead to the new covenant. Let me leave you today with a question. WHO is the one performing all the action in these versus? Is it you or is it God? Come back tomorrow and we’ll talk about the answer!

Today, April 20th, was my wedding anniversary. We have been together 19 years. Wow! We celebrated by going to our favorite restaurant together and had a really nice evening. We thank the Lord for coupons because it is a rather expensive restaurant. They have a coupon in the Entertainment Book so we get to go there at least once a year. When we came home we did something we have not done in a long time. We got out our wedding pictures and sat down with the kids and looked through them. My husband used to write me notes on the little yellow post-it notes. I had saved a bunch of them and put them with our wedding pictures. We read them together this evening. I think the kids really enjoyed that. Our children need to be reminded often that Mommy and Daddy love each other and we are committed to each other. We will stay together and work through whatever challenges that we encounter. They know our marriage is not perfect. But they also know that we are not quitters and we will not give up when we go through tough times. We have been through a lot in 19 years. Six children (we have two already with the Lord, in fact one went to be with the Lord on an anniversary!), job changes, two houses, lots of trials, lots of joys. We do not have the best marriage around, but we have a committed marriage. We are committed to stay put with one another. There are lots of things I wish I could change about my spouse and I bet he would say the same thing about me. One thing I know for sure... God is faithful. I just know that those very things I wish I could change, are the very things that He will use to mold and make me into the image of His Son. I am glad I married my husband and I would marry him again. I will stay with him until death do us part. I am saddened by the many people I have seen leave their spouses over the years and have personally counseled several not to divorce. Sometimes I have had to do this by a very choice of my will because things are not always rosy in a marriage. We personally have been through a lot, but I am convinced that God is faithful and He will honor those who persevere. Marriage is a covenant relationship and God honors covenant. We are truly blessed to serve a covenant keeping God! Speaking of our creator God, we are enjoying the beautiful spring and teaching our children to thank God for all the beautiful flowers and new growth. Everything is so pretty this time of year. Hope you are enjoying it too. Come back to visit!

Last night we went to

| | Comments (0)

Last night we went to my mother’s church to see an Easter musical. It told the story of Jesus beginning with the woman at the well. It included the raising of Lazarus, went through the Passover meal and then went on to the crucifixion. There was some focus on Pilate and his indecision about Jesus. All of it was in song. It was good and I found myself moved several times. On the way home in the car we had time to review and talk about it. All of us agreed that it did not include anywhere that it was for our sin that Jesus was crucified. In fact we talked about how people could sit through a presentation such as this and wonder to themselves, “Okay, Jesus was crucified and went through this, but why?” I have been talking about this very thing with a friend of mine. It seems to us that leaving this fact out of the story is not only bad but even a little deceptive. Jesus bore the cross because He paid a debt that we had. A sin debt. The bible says that “the wages of sin is death” Romans 6:23 (NKJV). Therefore, I am doomed to die for my sin. But God sent His Son Jesus to bear that sin for me so I would not have to die. Now I can live because Jesus paid the price. The price of death. This is the most important part of the story and I think it should be a major focus instead of something between the lines for the viewer to try to figure out for themselves. Just another note: Jesus paid the price for ALL of my sins. This was a very freeing thought to me. I used to go into every prayer time asking for forgiveness for this and forgiveness for that. One day I realized that in salvation I am totally forgiven! I didn’t struggle with this idea for long. I heard Dr. Bill Gillham of Lifetime Guarantee Ministries ask the question "How many of your sins had you committed at the time Jesus was crucified" I knew the answer was none. I wasn’t even born yet. That means that when Jesus Christ was crucified, He died for all of my sins: past, present and future. I believe that I am already forgiven. I now need only to confess my sins and walk in the forgiveness that He has already given me! As it was in the the musical I saw last night, there was only a moment spent on the resurrection. I believe the resurrection is just as important as the crucifixion. It is by the crucifixion that He paid the price for my sins. It is by the resurrection that I have His life so that I might live and walk by His life, new life. It is by the resurrection that I have His power to live my life daily in the trenches and on the mountaintops. I am only learning, but I believe somewhere deep inside my spirit there is so much more for me to learn about the cross and His life. More than I can even fathom at this point in my life. But that is why I am walking by faith. One step at a time to learn the truths and apply them to my life. Come and join me, won’t you? Romans 6:4 …that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection (NKJV) Oh "that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection". -- Phil 3:10 (NKJV)

Whew! It has been a very busy week for me. Angel business is booming. In addition, I have had lots of computer glitches to work through. Computers are wonderful but when they have problems it seems I need an entire day to fix them. I wonder where that day is supposed to come from?? On another note, I have been looking over my notes from my Covenant study. One of the passages we looked at that meant a lot to me was Jeremiah 31:31-34. There were two things that really stuck out for me from this passage. 1) God has put His law into our minds and written it on our hearts. No longer is the law written on tablets of stone, as with Moses and the 10 commandments, but it is now written on our hearts!! 2) A wonderful reminder that God will forgive our sin. Not only does it say that He will forgive, but He will remember our sin no more!! What a wonderful idea to think about as we go into Easter. Jesus was born to die. Not only did He endure the cross to be the perfect sacrifice for our sin, but He did it so that our sin would be put away from us FOREVER! I will be sharing more thoughts as I continue to review my notes from my study on Covenant. I hope to post again before Easter. Enjoy your day!
